The CAP 2030 project, launched by the French government, is part of an ambitious approach to meet the environmental challenges of tomorrow. Its main objective: to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% by 2030, compared to the 1990 level. This plan applies to the building, transport and industry sectors, with a direct impact on the energy and carbon performance of buildings, at the heart of the first theme of the project.

The priorities set by the project

The CAP 2030 plan is based on a collective dynamic involving all actors in the sector. For equipment manufacturers, these are:

  • Reducing their carbon footprint.
  • Adopt a circular economy logic.
  • And integrate ecological criteria into their industrial processes.

The numerical objectives align in particular with those of the Sustainable Building Plan, with a strong ambition: to improve the environmental quality of buildings, based on measurable data from LCA.

The nine themes of the climate approach carried out by the State

The CAP 2030 roadmap is based on nine major themes:

  1. Energy and carbon efficiency in buildings (priority theme for LCA).
  2. Circular economy and resource management.
  3. Quality of the indoor environment.
  4. Adaptation to climate change and water management.
  5. Biodiversity, nature in the city and health.
  6. Land sobriety and sustainable development.
  7. Economy and financing models for the transition.
  8. Actors support, skills and training.
  9. Digital technology at the service of ecological transition.

These themes are part of a coherent framework with RE2020, the Climate Law, and standards such as Effinergie, which guide the sector towards a measurable ecological transition.

The energy and carbon performance of buildings: a central challenge

Among the nine structuring themes of this initiative, the energy and carbon efficiency of buildings is the priority axis, especially for equipment manufacturers. This first theme involves a drastic reduction in emissions over the entire life cycle of building products, materials and technical systems.

It is in this context that Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) becomes indispensable. It makes it possible to measure the real environmental impact of equipment, taking into account all stages of its existence: production, transport, use, maintenance and end of life. In France, companies must now integrate this data to design products that are more sober, sustainable and in line with the challenges of decarbonization.

LCA: a key tool to meet the challenges of tomorrow in France

Life Cycle Assessment is much more than a regulatory tool: it is a strategic lever for reducing the carbon footprint of buildings. Complying with ISO 14040/14044 standards, it allows a transparent and technical assessment of the impact of products through precise performance indicators.

By integrating LCA into their development process, manufacturers can:

  • Quantify GHG emissions over each phase of the life cycle.
  • Identify optimization levers to design more efficient products.
  • Meet the requirements of regulations such as RE2020, which imposes precise ecological indicators.

Collective support for excellence

CAP 2030 is more than a regulatory objective: it is a support program, which provides companies with tools, training and resources to succeed in their transition. By joining this dynamic, manufacturers can:

  • Align with new normative requirements.
  • Gain competitiveness in the sustainable building market.
  • And strengthen their credibility through verifiable indicators such as those from the LCA.
